WACRI CELEBRATES WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH and WOMEN LEADERS AROUND THE WORLD

The 21^st century is predicted to be an unprecedented century for women in every sphere, including politics. Globally women as presidents or heads of state grew in the 20^th century after the end of colonialism, and the United Nations recognized this trend with the UN Decade for Women (1976-85) with four world conferences on women in Mexico City (1975), Copenhagen (1980), Nairobi (1985) and Beijing (1995).

The US has just elected the largest number of women to the House of Representatives and for the first time a woman, Nancy Pelosi, has been elected as Speaker.  In 2016 Hilary Clinton was the first woman to head a major party’s presidential ticket.  What does the next decade hold for women in American politics?
