Dr. Ray Raymond
Dr. Ray Raymond is a retired British diplomat. He is now a university professor in the US and Europe, an author, documentary film-maker and speaker. During his nearly quarter century in Her Majesty Diplomatic Service, he worked on NATO, The EU, UK-US Relations, US government and politics and the diplomatic aspects of combating terrorism, for which he was honored by HM Queen Elizabeth II. Dr. Raymond served as Professor of Government and History at the State University of New York and as Thomas Hawkins Johnson Professor at West Point where he is now Adjunct Professor of Comparative Politics and International Relations. He is also adviser to the US Military Academy’s UK Scholarship program. In Europe, Dr. Raymond is Visiting Professor of Government at Masaryk University in the Czech Republic. Dr. Raymond is the author of “Elite Souls : Profiles of Courage in Iraq and Afghanistan” (US Naval Institute Press, 2022). This is a collective biography of five of West Point’s Ninninger Medal Recipients awarded to its most exceptional young alumni in recognition of exceptional valor on the battlefield. His essays on international statecraft have been published by the US Army’s Strategic Studies Institute, the Brent Scowcroft Center at The Atlantic Council, The Carnegie Council for Ethics and International Affairs, The National Interest, and The Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy. Dr. Raymond received a first class honors degree in Modern History and Politics from the University of Dublin, his Masters in Philosophy and Phd from the University of Kansas as well as a Post-Doctoral Fellowship from Yale University. His honors include : the MBE from HM Queen Elizabeth II, The Distinguished Service Medal (civilian form), from the Chief of Staff of the US Army, an Honorary Doctorate from Coe College,Iowa, as well as Fellowships from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, and the Royal Society of Arts and Manufactures in London.
