"The Capitol Insurrection: Global Roots of Fascism" by Dr. Warren J. Blumenfeld.

The Stockholm-based International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance put the United States on a list of “backsliding democracies” in its November 2021 report. “The United States, the bastion of global democracy, fell victim to authoritarian tendencies itself,” the report found. Dr. Blumenfeld's presentation addresses some of the historical global roots of fascism and the social cleavages giving rise to anti-democratic leaders, which set the context for the January 6, 2021 Capitol Insurrection in the United States. 

Dr. Warren J. Blumenfeld is currently an Instructor in the College of Education, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and author of God, Guns, Capitalism, and Hypermasculinity: Commentaries on the Culture of Firearms in the United States (Peter Lang); and The What, The So What, and the Now What of Social Justice Education (Peter Lang); editor of Homophobia: How We All Pay the Price (Beacon); co-editor of Readings for Diversity and Social Justice (Routledge); and Investigating Christian Privilege and Religious Oppression in the United States (Sense).
