ARE BEES FISH?
U.S. and Global Perspectives on Bees and Beekeeping

Talk by Dr. Carolyn Fluehr-Lobban
TODAY- June 23, 2022
7 pm — on Zoom

Why did California recently determine that “bees are fish”?
What is causing 40% of beehives in the U.S. to collapse?
Who (or what) is behind the sham marketing of “true source honey”?
Which ten countries produce the most honey for the global market?
How is climate change affecting bees, and how can bees help reverse it?

Dr. Carolyn Fluehr-Lobban is both an anthropologist and, since 2006, an experienced beekeeper.
In this talk, she will first explain how bees have survived for some 60 million years, thanks to their remarkable biology, communication system, and complex sociology.  Then she will discuss the contemporary challenges to this extraordinary evolutionary success story.
