"Seeking Refuge"

 Immigration :

The Political and the Personal

Illegal immigration is a high profile political topic in America and across the globe as many countries deal with an influx of people seeking a better life outside of their homeland.

We will examine the complicated politics around illegal immigration and get an understanding of what the local immigrant community faces in their desire to stay in this country legally and become American citizens.

Deborah Gonzales, Director of the Immigration Clinic at Roger Williams School of Law, will speak to us about this topic.

Under Professor Gonzalez’s supervision, students represent indigent immigrants who need assistance in defending against removal proceedings or obtaining lawful permanent residence.

Ms. Gonzales also represents members of the local immigrant community through Gonzales Law Offices, where she is a partner.
